Welcome To The 94th Annual Holy Convocation Season

“Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (KJV, 2 Timothy 1:8–9).

TESTIMONIES ARE COMING

As we view the empty spaces on pews and the vacant seats, not due to social distancing, but left behind by our dearest heroes who have gone on from labor to rest, we fondly picture the places they filled in our lives. In addition to those who are of the household of faith, we remember the passing of the first responders, doctors, nurses, friends, family, neighbors, and others of the essential working community that served on the front lines during this pandemic. Yet, we are enheartened because testimonies are coming.

Someone is waiting to tell everybody, “I made it over.” Even though some were beyond the anointing of oil and laying on hands by the elders, testimonies are still coming. Struck by lost wages and financial despair, testimonies are still coming. Held hostage by an unseen enemy without proof of an outcome, testimonies are coming. In the face of falsifying prognosticators and the doubters who mused, “Where is God? Where is Jesus? Where is Daddy?” the testimonies that are coming have an answer.

They are lining up to declare when my heart stopped, He was with me in the operating room. When my lungs gave out, He was with me while I was on the ventilator. My sugar attempted to derail me, but Daddy got me back on track. My kidneys tried to fail, but Daddy gave them another test. Lingering on the brink of death, it is someone’s testimony that a finger of Love nudged them back to life. If you listen carefully, you can hear them on their way to the testimony line saying, “When the medical staff had no answer, Dad was my doctor who wrote my prescription, and gave me all of my medicine… all in my room.” The testimonies are coming. If you don’t believe you have a testimony, don’t worry about it because there is an extremely long line forming in front of you to witness that He was always standing right by their side.

Just as Israel celebrated Convocation in the wilderness of Sinai, we too are entering a season celebrating deliverance through the blood of Jesus Christ. Like Israel, we have a testimony of how death passed over, and like Israel, we are wearing masks, social-distancing, and washing our hands frequently because like Israel, we are still in the woods. As we maintain this tradition of Convocation that started so long ago, let us depart from the other practice of Israel which was to murmur against God and His servant. Let us look to the testimony of God that is being raised up once again in our midst for the healing and restoration of our purpose in Christ Jesus.

"And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live." (KJV, Numbers 21:6–8).
